Shafik Sachedina, The Medical Doctor In A Quest To Heal Social Ills

Shafik Sachedina is a medical doctor and is arguably a multifaceted 21-century man. He had the privilege to attend Dental School from the University of King’s College where he graduated in 1975. The Tanzanian born dental surgeon was born in 1950 and over his life; he has continued to develop an interest in many fields’ especially entrepreneurial interests.

Since he is a medical doctor by profession, the best avenue where he has practiced his entrepreneurial skills is in the center area but unquestionably with a human heart. Through his career as a dental surgeon, Shafik Sachedina has held different positions in line with his deep concern to humanity both voluntary and partially paying positions.

Part of his significant humanitarian contributions to his career includes being a director of a self-sustaining Sussex Health Care. Dementia and Alzheimer’s ailment are some of the most common kind of disease among the elderly in the world and especially in Sussex. Being a director and joint chairperson of such a noble course, he oversees the provision of quality medical attention to the elderly. This humbling project is a challenge considering many factors about the healthcare project. Some of the obstacles Shafik Sachedina faces in day-to-day operations of Sussex Health Care include a limited budget as well as scarce qualified human resource.

The Institute of Ismaili Studies is also under his extensive social empowerment package. He is passionate about education and being part of this institute is more than humbling to this experienced dentist. He is part of Board of Governors of this institute. The institution associates with Aga Khan Foundation and his work are more of a representative in nature and contribution of policies affecting the institution. Being part of the management is, however, a representation of his highness and this gives him a chance to safeguard Aga Khan Foundation interests especially in education. The institution is based in the sizeable Ismaili community, and an education project is critical considering it is situated among the minorities.

Due to his service to humanity as well as being an established entrepreneur, Shafik Sachedina has won many awards from different fields. For example, 2017 was an exceptional year for him. He was awarded in the prestigious Asian Business Awards as the extraordinary hotelier of the year. Working closely with the Aga Khan Foundation has opened up opportunities for him to interact with world leaders and contribute to issues of importance such as radicalization in Syria. These forums have given him opportunities to serve humanity on another higher level.
